TMAP-EM to change name to Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing, Adding new operations on compact vehicles

Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Engineering & Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TMAP-EM) has changed their name to Toyota Daihatsu Engineering & Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TDEM) effective from Monday April 3rd 2017, as part of the Toyota’s global initiative to further strengthen Toyota’s compact vehicle operations in emerging markets.

Since the past, Thailand has served as one of the global production and supply hub for Toyota mainly for the emerging-market-commercial vehicle, IMV (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) series, with the support from Thai government. TMAP-EM, which was established in 2007, also served as the local R&D, purchasing and preparation function for the IMV.

In the recent years, the region has been facing significant demand shift in the market from commercial vehicles to passenger vehicles. To better address these changes and continue contributing to Thai, Asia and Global market and industries, TDEM decided to add on new operations additional to the existing operations to pursue the development of the country and region to become the global production and supply hub of compact vehicles for emerging-market with the support from Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd.

TDEM president Mr. Tatsuro Takami commented, “This year, we celebrate 10th anniversary since TMAP-EM was established back in 2007. With the market situation becoming all tougher, we have decided to take on a new challenge in order to continue serving “ever-better cars” which is welcomed by Thai, Asian and global customers for the following decades. We would like to learn and receive technical assistance from Daihatsu on making good quality vehicles in affordable price and also on developing human resources who have both the knowledge of Toyota and Daihatsu car-making.”

TDEM will continue to contribute to Thai, Asia and global society with the Asian people through making ever-better cars.
